Options for Prevocational Training for Post Graduate Year 2 (PGY2)

Listed below are several options available to current Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) trainees wishing to change prevocational training networks in 2010 for their PGY2 year.

Recruitment Process for PGY2 Trainees (2 Year Contract Positions)

As part of the 2010 Junior Medical Staff recruitment process, current PGY1 trainees on 2 year contracts can apply for PGY2 positions advertised as 2 Year Contract positions.

More information on the recruitment process can be accessed from the NSW Health website (http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/) from early July 2009.

PGY 2 Swap Process

Options are available for a current PGY 1 trainee to swap to another prevocational training network if they are able to find a swap partner.

To apply for a swap there is a registration process, where a trainee must complete the Register to Swap for Post Graduate Year (PGY) 2 Year form and submit the completed form to NSW IMET by 13 July 2009. The registration will commence from 1 July 2009.

Following registration NSW IMET would publish a swap register for registered applicants to view and liaise with other interested trainees to organise a swap. The swap register will be available for registered trainees from 16 July 2009 to 3 August 2009.

Once trainees have found partners to swap, they must propose their swaps to NSW IMET on the Proposed Swap for a Post Graduate Year (PGY) 2 Resident Medical Officer Position form and submit to NSW IMET by 3 August 2009.

NSW IMET will collect applications for proposed swap/s and will forward to the relevant prevocational training networks for their approval.

Relevant prevocational training networks would notify the applicants of their outcome regarding their swap proposal.

Special Consideration for PGY 2 Year

It is recognised that their may be circumstances that may affect trainees to continue in their current prevocational training networks.
