NSW IMET is also establishing a broader reference group that will also include area health service representatives, college representatives, and doctors from the groups intended to participate in the Program.
Area health services have been provided with funding for a part time Area Director of Hospital Training and an Education Support Officer. These positions will also support the NSW Department of Health’s Hospitalist Project . The Hospital Skills Program - What’s Happening at the Moment?
The Hospital Skills Program State Training Council is working hard on development of tools and resources so that the Program can be implemented. Working groups are being established to progress the following:
- Development of an assessment and certification process, including a mechanism to ‘grandfather’ doctors into the Program.
- On-line program to record training.
- Finalisation of the HSP Emergency Department Curriculum.
- Development of a Core Curriculum for the HSP.
- Development of the HSP Mental Health Curriculum.
- Development of the HSP Aged Care Curriculum.
NSW IMET will begin work on the surgery, medicine, obstetrics & gynaecology and paediatrics curricula in early 2009.
The Council meets regularly and discusses many of the issues related to the implementation of such a new and innovative program, including how to engage the locum workforce, issues facing implementation in rural and regional areas, training delivery, and more.
A forum for the Hospital Skills Program State Reference Group was held on the 26th of August 2008. To download a copy of the forum report, please click here
