New Hospitalist Career Pathway for public hospital doctors in NSW

In October 2007 the Premier announced a new training program and career pathway for non-specialist doctors employed by our public hospitals.   This initiative recognises the contribution of non-specialist medical officers to the hospital workforce.   As part of this initiative the NSW Department of Health is creating a new Staff Hospitalist position.  A Staff Hospitalist training program will also be developed to support this role.

The training program is currently in development.  The Hospitalist Steering Committee has been formed to guide development, implementation and strategic direction of the Staff Hospitalist program.  It will work with the Department to guide development of the curriculum and training modules. The final program will include full articulation from the IMET Hospital Skills Program.
