How do I become a surveyor?

By becoming a surveyor, you will be making a valuable contribution to ensuring prevocational training in NSW/ACT is of a high standard.

The following steps will guide you through the surveyor recruitment process. 

Steps to Become a Surveyor

  1. Read "The Accreditation Survey - a Guide for Surveyors". click here
  2. Complete the "Self Assessment" sheets as you go. They have been designed to assist you in your learning. click here
  3. Once you have read "The Accreditation Survey - a Guide for Surveyors", complete the "New Surveyor Exercises".  click here
  4. If you are not sure about the answer to any of the exercises then please complete it as far as you can and add a comment indicating that you would like further clarification. You can also ring IMET at any point for further clarification.
  5. Submit your completed exercises electronically to IMET prevochotline@imet.health.nsw.gov.au
  6. The Chair of the Prevocational Accreditation Committee will then assess your answers.
  7. A staff member from the System Support and Operations Division will then contact you to discuss the training materials and exercises.
  8. To complete the training phase, you will participate in a survey as a trainee surveyor.

After Surveyor Training

Following successful completion of the training, you will be certified and will participate in surveys as a full team member.

You will participate in at lease one more survey as a full team member within the first 12 months of being accredited. After that, you will usually do a minimum of two surveys a year. 

To remain certified you should expect to participate in at least two surveys per year.
