How are terms accredited?

Prevocational trainees can only work in terms accredited, or provisionally accredited by the Prevocational Accreditation Committee (PAC).

The NSW Medical Board may consider non-accredited terms undertaken by a PGY1 as not counting towards their registration.

New and revised terms can only be accredited by the PAC.

Survey teams cannot approve new or revised terms. The survey team’s role is to establish that a term is delivering the education, training and supervision outlined in the accredited term description.

The following easy steps will assist facilities to get new terms accredited.

Step 1    Download the IMET term description template by clicking here
Step 2   Complete all sections of the IMET term description template. IMET will only accept term descriptions on the IMET term description template.
Step 3 Send the completed term description to accreditation@imet.health.nsw.gov.au or to your relevant Network Coordinator.
Step 4 The PAC considers the term description for provisional accreditation. For PAC meeting dates click here.
Step 5

IMET will inform the facility of the PAC’s accreditation decision in writing.

Step 6 At the facility’s next survey, a survey team will assess if the term is delivering the education, training and supervision in the term description.
